1 a type of person or thing 种，类:

all kinds of (=many different kinds of) 各种各样: We sell all kinds of hats. 我们有各式各样的帽子出售。
some kind of (=used when you are not sure what something is like) 某种: I think they're having some kind of party upstairs. 我想他们正在楼上举行什么聚会。
of its kind The course is the only one of its kind. 这道菜是独一无二的。
2 kind of spoken informal used when you are describing or explaining what something is like. You sometimes use 'kind of' to mean 'a little' or 'rather', but often it has no real meaning. 【口，非正式】 有一点…，有几分…:
He looks kind of weird to me. 我觉得他看上去有点怪。
3 of a kind of the same type 同一种类:
Each vase is handmade and is one of a kind. (=the only one of its type) 每一只花瓶都是手工制的，因此也是独一无二的。
4 in kind if you pay someone in kind, you give them goods or services instead of money 以实物［服务］代款支付
USAGE NOTE 用法说明: kind
If you use kind or sort in the singular, they should be followed by a singular noun. 如果 kind 或 sort 使用单数形式，则它们后面应当跟一个单数名词:
I don't like that kind/sort of book. 我不喜欢那种书。
This kind/sort of question is never easy. 这类问题向来是不容易回答的。
If you use the plural kinds or sorts, follow them with a noun in the plural. 如果使用复数形式 kinds 或 sorts, 则它们后面应当跟一个复数名词:
We sell all kinds/sorts of shoes. 我们出售各种各样的鞋子。
I meet many different kinds/sorts of people in my work. 我在工作中遇到许多不同类的人。
Unless, of course, the noun is uncountable. 当然，除非所跟名词是不可数的:
