1 used between two possibilities, or before the last in a series of possibilities 或，还是:
Coffee or tea? 咖啡还是茶？
You can go by bus, by train, or by plane. 你可以乘巴士、火车或飞机去。

2 used after a negative verb when you mean not one thing and not another thing 也不〔用于否定意思的动词后〕:
They don't eat meat or fish. 他们不吃肉，也不吃鱼。
3 also 又作 or else used to warn someone that something bad will happen if they do not do something 否则，要不然:
Hurry, or you'll miss your plane. 快些！ 要不然你会赶不上飞机的。
4 two or three/20 or 30 etc used to say that you are not sure of the exact amount, but it is about two, three etc 两三个/二三十等:
"How many people were there?" "About 30 or 40." “有多少人？”“大概三四十人吧。”
5 or so used after a number, time, distance etc to show that it is not exact 大约，左右〔用于数字、时间、距离等后面〕:
There's a gas station a mile or so down the road. 沿这条路走一英里左右有一个加油站。
6 or anything/something spoken used to talk or ask about something similar to the thing you have just mentioned 【口】 或者别的什么/诸如此类的什么〔用于指与前面所提的相类似的事〕:
Do you want to go out for a drink or anything? 你想出去喝一杯或者干点别的什么吗？
7 used to further explain something that you have just said 或者说，也就是; 即〔用于进一步解释刚提及的某事〕:
biology, or the study of living things 生物学，即生物研究
