USAGE NOTE 用法说明: telephone, phone, call, and 和 ring
These are all verbs meaning 'to communicate with someone by telephone'. Phone is the most usual word in British English, and call is the most usual in American English. 这些动词的意思都是“打电话”。phone 是英式英语中最常用的词，call 是美式英语中最常用的词:
Chris phoned to say he'd be late. 克里斯打电话说他会迟到。
What time did he call? 他什么时候打电话来的？
British English speakers also use ring. 说英式英语的人也用 ring:
I'm just ringing to see how you are. 我只是打电话来向你问好。
Telephone is used only in fairly formal English. telephone 只用于相当正式的英语中:
Our staff will telephone for a taxi for you. 我们的员工会为你打电话叫一辆计程车。
