1 to say or think that someone is responsible for something bad 责怪,归咎于〔某人〕:
It's not fair to blame Charlie. He didn't know anything. 责怪查理是不公平的。他什么都不知道。
blame sb for sth Mothers often blame themselves for their children's problems. 妈妈们经常把她们孩子的问题归咎于自己。
blame sth on sb Don't try to blame this on me! 不要试图把这件事怪在我头上!
be to blame (=be responsible for something bad) 应该〔对某事〕承担责任: Hospital staff were not in any way to blame for the baby's death. 医院的医护人员对婴儿的死绝对无须负责。
2 I don't blame you/them etc spoken used to say that you think it was reasonable for someone to do what they did 【口】 我不责怪你(们)/他们等:
"I lost my temper with Ann." "I don't blame you — she's very annoying." “我对安发脾气了。”“这不能怪你 — 她很烦人。”

Compare the way the nouns blame and fault are used in the following sentences. 比较下列句子中名词 blame 和 fault 的不同用法:
They were not to blame for the accident. 他们不应对那次事故承担责任。
The accident was not their fault. 那次事故不是他们的错。
Blame is used in a few fixed ways, especially be to blame, get the blame and put the blame on sb, but fault is usually used in the phrase be sb's fault. blame 有几个固定用法,尤其是 be to blame, get the blame 和 put the blame on sb, 但 fault 常用于片语 be sb's fault:
It was all your fault! Why do I always get the blame? 那都是你的错! 为什么总要我背黑锅?
