Famous is a stronger word than well-known, and it means that a great many people over a very wide area know who you are, what you do etc. famous 比 well-known 语气强,表示广为人知:
a famous movie star 著名的影星
She always wanted to be rich and famous. 她总是想发财出名。
You can be well-known within a smaller area. well-known 的范围要小些:
a well-known figure in the town 镇上的名人
He wants to go into local politics, but he's not very well-known. 他想进入当地的政界,但他不太有名。
Notorious means 'famous for something bad'. notorious 表示“因坏事而出名”:
a notorious drinker and gambler 臭名昭著的酒鬼加赌徒。
Infamous means the same as notorious when it is used before a noun. infamous 用于名词之前与 notorious 含义相同:
an infamous criminal 臭名昭著的罪犯,but it can also simply mean 'evil or wicked'. 但它也可以只表示“恶毒的或邪恶的”: his infamous cruelty 他恶毒的暴行
