1 used to make a word or statement have the opposite meaning 不〔用于表示相反的意思〕:
Most stores are not open on Sundays. 大部分商店星期天都不营业。
He does not speak English. 他不会说英语。
not at all I was not at all surprised to see her. 见到她，我一点也不惊讶。
not a lot/not much (=little) 很少: Not much is known about the disease. 对这种疾病的认识极为有限。
2 used instead of a whole phrase to mean the opposite of what has been mentioned before it 不是〔用于代替整个片语，表示相反的意思〕:
No one knows if the story is true or not. 没有人知道这个故事是真是假。
I hope not "Is Mark still ill?" "I hope not." “马克还在生病吗？”“但愿不是。”

4 not a/not one not any person or thing; none 一个也没有:

5 not bad! spoken used to say that something is good 【口】 不错，很好:

6 not that... used to say that what you said before is not important to someone 并不是说…:
