to show that something is true 证实〔某事〕,支持〔某种说法〕:
Our fears about the radiation levels were borne out by the research. 我们对于辐射度的担忧为该项研究所证实。
USAGE NOTE 用法说明: bear, stand, tolerate, and 和 put up with
Use these words to talk about accepting or dealing with a bad situation. 用这些词表示接受或应付困境。
Bear means that someone is being brave. bear 表示某人很勇敢:
The pain was almost too much to bear. 这样的痛苦几乎使人受不了。
Stand is usually used in the phrase can't stand. stand 常用于片语 can't stand:
I can't stand all this noise! 我不能忍受这噪音!
Tolerate and put up with mean the same thing, but tolerate is more formal. tolerate 和 put up with 意思相同,但 tolerate 更正式:
Why do you put up with him being so rude? 你为什么容忍他的粗鲁无礼?
I'm surprised you tolerate his behaviour. 我对你容忍他的行为感到吃惊。
