1 [not before noun 不用于名词前] certain about something 确信的，有把握的:
+ (that) Are you sure you've met him before? 你肯定见过他吗？
+ about Are you quite sure about this? 这事你很有把握吗？
+ what/where/why etc I'm not sure how many people are coming to the party. 我不肯定会有多少人来参加聚会。
2 make sure
a) to check that something is true or that something has been done 查明，弄确实:
"Did you lock the front door?" "I think so, but I'd better make sure." “你把前门锁好了吗？”“应该锁了，不过我还是去看看吧。”
+ (that) He called to make sure we got home okay. 他打电话来看我们是否平安到家了。
b) to do something so that something will definitely happen 确保〔某事发生〕:
Make sure you get there early. 你一定要早点到那里。
3 certain to happen or be true 必定会发生的; 肯定真实的，确实的:
a sure winner 胜券在握的人
a sure sign of rain 肯定要下雨的征兆
sure to do sth Jan is sure to call while I'm out. 我出去的时候简必定会打电话来。
4 be sure of sth to be certain to get something or certain that something will happen 肯定会〔得到某物〕，一定会〔有某事发生〕:
You're sure of a warm welcome at Liz's. 你在利兹家肯定会受到热烈欢迎。
5 sure of yourself confident about your own abilities and opinions 自信，有自信心
6 be sure to do sth spoken used to tell someone to remember to do something 【口】 一定要做某事〔用于嘱咐〕:
Be sure to write! 一定要写信！
7 sure thing AmE spoken used to agree to something 【美口】 一定，当然〔用于表示同意〕:
"See you Friday." "Yeah, sure thing." “星期五见。”“好， 一定。”
