1 be supposed
a) used when saying what is expected or intended to happen, especially when it fails to happen 按理,本应〔尤用于表示某事本应发生,但其实没有〕:
There's supposed to be a bus at half past four. 按理四点半该有一辆巴士的。
I thought this was supposed to be a holiday! 我以为这本该是假期!
b) used when saying what someone should or should not do, according to rules or what someone has said should happen 〔根据规则或某人说的话而〕应该〔做某事〕:
You're not supposed to smoke in here. 这里不可以抽烟。
c) if something is supposed to be true, many people believe it is true 被认为…,被相信是…:
This is supposed to be the oldest theater in New York. 这被认为是纽约最古老的剧院。
2 to think that something is probably true, based on what you know 认为,猜想,料想:
+ (that) She usually finished work at 6, so I suppose she's gone home. 她一般在六点钟下班,所以我估计她已经回家了。
3 I suppose
a) used when saying that something is probably true, although you are not sure about it 我想,我估计:
"How old is she?" "She's about 50, I suppose." “她多大了?”“五十左右吧,我想。”
b) used when agreeing to let someone do something, especially when you do not want to 我看可以〔尤用于表示勉强地同意某人做某事〕:
I suppose so "Can I borrow your car?" "I suppose so, if you're careful with it." “我可以借你的车用用吗?”“我看可以,但你要小心使用。”
c) used when you are angry with someone 我看〔用于表示生气〕:
+ (that) I suppose you thought that was funny! 我看你觉得那样很好玩是吧!
I don't suppose you care, do you? 我看你也不在乎,是吧?
