1 in a short time from now, or a short time after something else happens 不久，很快，即刻:
It will be dark soon. 很快就会天黑了。
They soon realized their mistake. 他们不久就认识到了自己的错误。
as soon as possible (=as quickly as possible) 尽快: I'll get it fixed as soon as possible. 我会尽快修好它。

2 as soon as immediately after something has happened 一…就:
I came as soon as I heard the news. 我一听到这个消息就来了。
3 sooner or later used to say that something will definitely happen but you are not sure when 迟早，总有一天:
He's bound to find out sooner or later. 他迟早总会发现的。
4 no sooner had ... than used to say that something happened almost immediately after something else 刚…就…:
No sooner had I stepped in the shower than the phone rang. 我刚进去冲澡，电话就响了。
5 I would sooner/I would just as soon (do sth) used when you are saying what you would like to happen 宁愿（做某事）:
I'd just as soon stay in and watch TV. 我宁愿留在家里看电视。
