USAGE NOTE 用法说明: vacation and 和 holiday
Vacation is the usual American English word for a period of time you spend away from school or work, or when you travel to another place during this time. vacation 是一般的美国英语用词，指不用上学或上班的假期，或者在此期间去某个地方的度假:
Where are you going on vacation this summer? 今年夏天你打算去哪里度假？
a two-week vacation 两周的假期
The usual British English word is holiday or holidays. 在英国英语中一般用 holiday 或 holidays:
the summer holidays 暑假
We went to Ireland for our holiday last year. 我们去年到了爱尔兰度假。
However, holiday is used in both British and American English to talk about a day when no one officially has to go to work or school. 但是当谈及单日的官方节假日时，英国英语和美国英语都使用 holiday:
Christmas Day is a holiday in most Western countries. 在大多数西方国家里，圣诞节是（公共）假日。
