USAGE NOTE 用法说明: reject, turn down, refuse, and 和 decline
All these words mean 'to not accept something'. If you reject something or someone, you say firmly that you will not accept an offer, a suggestion, someone's friendship etc. 这些词都表示“不接受某事物”。如果你 reject(拒绝)某物或某人,你坚决地表示不接受一个提议、建议或某人的友谊等:
They have until December 19 to accept or reject the proposal. 到 12 月 19日那天,他们必须接受或拒绝这个建议。
Kieran's book got rejected by every publisher. 基兰的书被所有的出版商拒绝了。
Turn down is a slightly less formal word for reject. turn down(拒绝)的正式程度比 reject 稍微轻一些:
You'd be stupid to turn down such a good job offer. 你拒绝一个这么好的工作机会就太傻了。
If you refuse something, you say no, although someone very much wants you to accept it. 如果你 refuse(拒绝)某物,表示尽管有人很想让你接受,你却不接受:
Peggy refused all offers of help. 佩姬拒绝了所有提供的帮助。
If you decline an offer, you say politely that you cannot or will not accept it. 如果你 decline(拒绝)一个提议,你礼貌地表示不能或不愿接受:
I'm sorry, but I'll have to decline the invitation. 很抱歉,但是我不得不拒绝这个邀请。
