Lay means to put something somewhere. lay 的意思是把东西放在某个地方:
He laid the papers on the desk. 他把报纸放在桌子上。
Lie has two different meanings. It can mean that someone or something is flat on a surface. lie 有两个不同的意思，一个是“平卧，平放”:
The cat was lying on the window ledge. 那只猫躺在窗台上。
Don't leave your socks lying on the floor! 别把你的袜子放在地板上！
Lie also means 'to say something that is not true'. 另一个意思是“说谎”:
