USAGE NOTE 用法说明: smell, odour, scent, fragrance, and 和 aroma
Use smell in a general way to talk about something that you notice or recognize using your nose. smell 通指鼻子闻到的气味:
the smell of rotten eggs 臭蛋的气味
There are some wonderful smells coming from the kitchen. 厨房里飘来阵阵香味。
An odour is an unpleasant smell. odour 是指难闻的气味:
The odour of stale cigarette smoke was in the air. 空气中有股污浊的香烟味。
A scent is what something smells like, especially something that smells pleasant. scent 是指某物发出的气味，尤指香味:
a cleaning liquid with a pine scent 带有松木清香的清洗液
A fragrance is an extremely pleasant scent. fragrance 是指一种特别好闻的香味:
the deliciously sweet fragrance of flowers 花儿甜甜的芳香
An aroma is a pleasant smell from food or drinks. aroma 是指食物或饮品散发的香味:
