USAGE NOTE 用法说明: last
1 When your point of view is in the present, looking back to the past, say last night, last week etc. 当着眼点在目前，回顾过去时便说 last night （昨晚）、last week （上星期）等:
I went to bed late last night. 昨晚我很晚才睡。
I spoke to Sue last Monday. 上星期一我跟苏谈过。
But when your point of view is in the past, looking even further back into the past, use previous. 但当着眼点在过去，要回顾更早一些的过去时，则用 previous:
the previous night (=the night before) 前一晚
the previous week (=the week before) 前一个星期
I told her I had spoken to Sue the previous Monday. 我告诉她我前一个星期一跟苏谈过。
2 Compare 比较 latest and last. Use latest when you mean 'new and most recent'. 表示“新的、最近的”时用 latest:
Have you heard the latest news? 你听到最新消息了吗？
Use last when you mean 'coming at the end' or 'coming before the latest one'. 表示“最后的”或“上一次的”时用 last:
'The Magic Flute' was Mozart's last opera. 《魔笛》是莫扎特的最后一部歌剧。
Have you read Bigg's latest novel? It's better than her last one. 你看过碧歌的最新小说吗？ 它比她上一部小说好。
