1 each one of a group of people or things 每一(个):
Every student (=all the students) will take the test. 每个学生都将参加考试。
every single (=used to emphasize that you mean all) 每一(件)〔用于强调,意指全部〕: He told Jan every single thing I said. 他把我说的每一件事都告诉了简。
2 used to say how often something happens 每,每隔…:
We get the newspaper every day. 我们每天都收到报纸。
every now and then/every so often (=sometimes, but not often) 有时,偶尔: I still see her every now and then. 我仍然偶尔和她见面。
3 one in every hundred/two in every thousand etc used to show how many people or things in a group are affected by something 每一百个中的一个/每一千个中的两个等:
a disease that will kill one in every thousand babies 造成每千个婴儿中有一个死亡的疾病
4 as much as possible; a lot 充分地,尽可能多地:
I'll make every effort to get there on time. 我会尽一切努力准时到那里。

5 every which way informal in every direction 【非正式】 朝各个方向,向四面:
People were running every which way. 人们四散奔逃。
USAGE NOTE 用法说明: every one and 和 everyone
Every one means 'each single person or thing in a group'. every one 意思是一组人或物中的每一个:
Every one of the books had a torn page. 这些书每一本都被撕去了一页。
Everyone means 'all the people in a group'. everyone 意思是一组人中“所有的人”:
Everyone is waiting for you. 大家都在等你。
